THE CAUCUSES- : A political meeting or a caucus is held by one political party and the only people that are allowed to attend are members of that political party.
THE PRIMARIES- a preliminary election in which voters of each party nominate candidates for office, party officers

THE NATIONAL PARTY CONVENTIONS- convention held every four years by each of the major parties to nominate a presidential candidate
THE GENERAL ELECTION- an election usually held at regular intervals in which candidates are elected in all or most constituencies of a nation or state


DARK HORSE- a competition or candidate who has little chance of winning, or who wins against expectations.
DELEGATES- a person with authorization to represent others. In particular, an elected representative sent to a conference
FAVORITE SON- a political favored in his or her home state.

FRONT-RUNNER- The person who is most liked EX. Mitt Romney
INCUMBENT- Necessary for or resting on (someone) as a duty or responsibility
NOMINATION- An act or instance of nominating, especially to office. The floor is open for nomination of candidates for the presidency

PLATFORM- A formal declaration of the principles on which a group, such as a political party. Makes its appeal to the appeal.
POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (PAC)- campaigns for or against the political candidates
